FAQ
Plain questions, plain answers.
What people ask before they buy, and the honest answers.
Buying
Is Papayra a subscription?
Your choice. Try Papayra free for 30 days, then $69 a year for all business pro features, or buy once for $99.
Buy it and own it if you like. Business features, such as document signing, may be offered as subscriptions later. Every way to buy.
Can I try it before I buy?
Yes: 30 days free. Papayra asks you when you open it, or after a few minutes of use: try it free for 30 days, then $69 a year, or buy once for $99. Saving and exporting start once you have chosen. Nothing is charged for the first 30 days; unless you cancel before they end, the yearly plan renews at $69 a year. How to buy.
Mac App Store or direct download?
Both. Papayra for Mac is on the Mac App Store and is also available as a direct download from this site. Papayra for iPhone and iPad is on the App Store.
I lost my licence key.
Write to support@papayra.com with the e-mail you bought with. (A licence key is for the direct download of Papayra for Mac; on the App Store, use Restore Purchase in Papayra’s Settings.)
Does Papayra need the internet?
Only to start. Starting the free trial or buying needs an internet connection, because the App Store and the payment page need one. When it opens, Papayra fetches its purchase settings from papayra.com and sends nothing else. Once you have started the trial or bought Papayra, it opens and edits your documents with or without the internet, and no document ever leaves your device.
How do I cancel the yearly plan?
On the App Store: in your Apple Account’s subscription settings (on iPhone and iPad: Settings > your name > Subscriptions; on a Mac: the App Store > your account > Subscriptions). Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. Bought from papayra.com: the payment page and your receipt say how to cancel. Your documents are never touched either way.
Does it cover my Mac, iPhone and iPad?
On the App Store, yes. Buy Papayra once or start the yearly plan on the App Store, and it unlocks on every Mac, iPhone and iPad signed in with your Apple Account. A licence key from papayra.com unlocks the direct download of Papayra for Mac.
Which Macs, iPhones and iPads does it run on?
Papayra for Mac runs on macOS 13 or later. Papayra for iPhone and iPad runs on iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 or later, including iPhone Duo, where it lays out for both the folded and the unfolded screen.
Privacy
Does Papayra upload my files?
No. Every page is opened, edited and saved on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. Your documents are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to. Open Papayra and start working.
Does Papayra collect any data about me?
No. There are no analytics, no tracking and no advertising in the apps or on this website. When it opens, Papayra fetches its purchase settings from papayra.com and sends nothing else: no document, no account, no device identifier. Papayra’s App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”. The details are in our privacy policy.
Editing
Can Papayra edit any PDF?
Papayra edits the text of PDFs that contain text, which is most documents made on a computer: contracts, letters, reports, statements, forms and magazines. A scanned page is a photograph of text, with no text inside it to edit; Papayra does not turn scans into text. You can still mark up, sign and rearrange scanned pages.
Will my new words match the rest of the page?
When the document carries its fonts, Papayra types your new words with the document’s own letters, so they match the page. Some PDFs carry only part of a font, or none at all; then Papayra sets the new words in a stand-in font from your device, and you see the result on the page before you save.
Is redaction permanent?
Yes. When you apply a redaction, the text underneath is deleted from the file, not covered with a black box. You can check it yourself: in the saved file, the redacted words cannot be selected, searched or copied. Keep your original if you might need the text again.
Can it export to Word or PDF/A?
Yes, both. Export any PDF to an editable Word document (.docx), or to PDF/A for court filing and long-term archives.
What about mistakes?
The honest answer: PDF editing is not a perfect science. PDFs are made by thousands of different programs in thousands of different ways, and errors can happen, in Papayra as in every PDF editor.
We have tested over 10,000 documents and millions of edits, and we believe Papayra has error rates similar to other commercial PDF editors.
So please check every document you edit before you rely on it, especially anything mission-critical: contracts, court filings, financial, medical and legal records. Keep a copy of the original until you have. The full terms are on our legal page.
